How is adobe wall constructed?

The constructing material is natural clay and straw. During the construction adobe is not made, but the prepared, developed and set aside mud, which is the constructing material, is put in the traditional way by pitchfork one layer to the other and is build an adobe wall from it. For building the adobe wall clay soil is used. The amount of clay and soil, needed for a day’s work is carried on the previous day into a 4 to 5 m diameter bed the height of which is 40 – 50 cm, it is spread out, watered, and covered with plant materials (straw) and other mud and straw layers are put on it during the construction. On the day of the construction the “leavened mud” is cranked with hoe or pitchfork and after that the mud can be put to construct the wall. The adobe wall is normally created with pitchfork, the mud is leveled and pressed by. Every now and then the side of the adobe wall is straightened with pitchfork or rake and raked. The placement is by putting three layers, one or two weeks after placing the first layer begins the adobe wall carving, giving the exact size of the wall. About two weeks after carving can be placed the next layer, assuring drying of the previous layer. The mud wall has good The mud wall has good heat and sound insulation capability, it contains only natural constructing materials (clay, straw, water), that is why it is much more healthier. Thanks to the natural constructing materials it is breathable, and as a result the adobe house provides constant humidity. As the adobe wall does not contain special constructing materials, the production of it is much cheaper than the one of concrete or brick wall, however, its durability is not worse, because nowadays it is built on concrete base and is insulated. Despite these advantages it is a cheap way of constructing!

The mud walls have been used for constructing houses and outbuildings since the 18th – 19th centuries. The layered mud walls are made from mud, mixed with straw or other plant materials. The adobe architecture combines the natural constructing, the traditional folk autonomous house like architecture and the solutions for sustainability, creating the conditions for self-sufficiency. IMPORTANT: It can be made on reinforced concrete foundations, insulated against ground moisture substrate. Reinforced concrete ring also can be made on it.
